Hello & Welcome.
Convicts Tunnel sits just a few minutes away from Wombwell Woods it was used to provide traffic a passage under what is now a disused railway line. When visiting this site you head for Smithley Lane but the path that leads you to the tunnel is Crawshaw Lane.
We recently gave this location a visit and just like before we picked up on the sounds of footsteps, sounds of human like movements around the location and some interesting replies when asking out. For the video of the visit Click Here.
There is a small amount of history on this location on the internet with some saying convicts were placed in a camp close to the location to build the tunnel hence the name. You will also notice there is 2 bridges one on the top of another and this was the result of the bank been raised by around 20 feet in the 60`s.
When you look at a before (late 1800`s ish) and now picture of this location on a map you can see road changes and fields where buildings once stood. It can remind you the reasons why some people claim to see or experience paranormal activity in some what may seem very odd and strange places.
